Gluten and Dairy-Free Restaurants in England

Coeliac UK website will be helpful here. I know some of the chains are very good at catering for allergies. Pizza Express and Cote are known for their good gluten free and coeliac friendly options.

Restaurants here are very aware of food allergies and you’ll be asked routinely if you have an allergy.

I would like to try fish and chips, but they will need to be gluten-free (no wheat). That maybe a challenge!

My local chippy does gluten free but I somehow doubt you’ll be in Bristol. They use separate utensils and a separate deep fat fryer.

Everywhere we went to dine, it was made quite clear that they wanted to know about your allergies. Not only said it on the menu, but the server would ask at least once. So anyplace should be quite receptive to your request, even if the answer is No we can't do that.

Fish and chips a little more difficult. But you should be successful.

If you’re coeliac you need to be very careful with cross contamination so it is best to do a little bit of research online. I’ve seen gluten free cakes piled up right next to non-gluten free ones, for example. While that is fine for the many people who avoid gluten as a preference, it is not ok for people with coeliac disease.

Fish and chip shops sometimes only offer gluten free on some days of the week when they can dedicate a fryer.

Hobson's Fish and Chips! They have two locations, Bayswater and Soho. A must every time I visit London. Wonderful GF menu. Fish just as good as I remember from my pre-celiac days.
