Globe Tickets Available! Performance length?

Tickets to performances at Shakespeare's Globe are now on sale to the general public at www.shakespearesglobe.com.

We're planning to see "A Midsummer Night's Dream" when we're in London in May. Does anyone know what the running time of any one performance would be? We have the choice of several different starting times, but our hotel is way north of the theater, so a matinee would probably be the smarter choice. Especially if we decide to be groundlings! There is a place on the website labeled "Running Time," but it doesn't say what the running time is. At least it doesn't show up on my screen. Thanks for your help.

That's part of it. I also find it takes a while to unwind after any performance, and I don't stay up as late as I used to!

Hi, Jane. I was just able to purchase 1 ticket for the Dream performance of my choice in July. Seats are selling quickly, and it took me a few different tries to get to the booking screen. I have chosen the matinee. I don't know the length of the performance, but I have attended other Globe matinees, the most recent a few years ago for Macbeth. I prefer the matinees since I am often just off the plane, as I will be this year. If I had the opportunity for a midnight performance, I would select my hotel for proximity to the Globe, otherwise, the matinees have worked for me.

Cheers.

We're booked! We decided not to be groundlings this time, since we've chosen an evening performance. Thanks, everyone, for your help. Cheers!

I got my Midsummer Night's Dream ticket today. I don't know if the website was misbehaving or what. There's a list of performance dates and times on the right side of the screen. When I clicked on my date and time, it said that performance was sold out. When I clicked on "Tickets," it took me to a place to select the performance. I chose the same performance and there were lots of seats available. I got one of them.

If you enjoy a nice pub and seeing London at night try walking across the Millennium Bridge towards St Pauls. Turn Left on Queen Victoria street (School of London is on the left and the large glass encased Salvation Army Headquarters on right) and walk about 0.3 of a mile to the stellar art deco Blackfriar Pub. Right across from the Blackfriar Underground station so you can be whisked home to your accommodation after enjoying a pint.

We saw a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Globe in the summer of 2013. The performance, including intermission, was about 3 hours long.

We ate dinner with a fabulous view of St. Paul's Cathedral from the top of the Tate Modern, which is next to the Globe Theatre. Make sure you rent the cushions AND back support, you'll be happy you did. We saw, As You Like It, and I was so exhausted that I could barely keep my eyes open. But, I did get a second wind and really enjoyed it. The theatre was beautiful! When it came to an end I was ready because I was so tired, only to find out is was intermission! Yikes, with 1 hour and a half yet to go! We all tried to make it, and we were all disappointed, but we left early. Just sneaked out since it was getting so late and we were walking home. It was very enjoyable and wish we had the energy to make it to the end. So, if you need to, just make a quick exit. We loved it!

There are very few Globe productions that take two hours. There's no way of telling exactly this early (even the official timings can be up to fifteen minutes out for specific performances because it's live theatre) but I would expect somewhere around 2 1/2 hours for a Shakespeare comedy.

Lo, that was my experience with ticketing too. I am glad I kept returning to the site and trying different ways of getting into where I could select and purchase. If others have difficulties, follow Lo's comments.

It took us a while to figure out the website, as well. The hardest part was actually choosing seats; the interface was not intuitive. But we finally managed. We did get seat cushion vouchers, but we're planning to forgo backrests, since we're on the back row (middle tier).

Thanks for the pub and restaurant recommendations. Our tickets are for 6:30 Sunday evening, so we'll eat before we go, but wouldn't mind stopping off for a pint on the way back to our Bayswater hotel. Are pubs open on Sunday night? If anyone thinks that's a silly question, let me remind you I live in Oklahoma, which has some very restrictive alcohol laws. (Although they're not nearly as bad as they used to be.)

My sister and her boys had the upper tier against the wall and found the wall not comfortable at all to lean against, but only discovered this an hour into the play. We were in front of my sis and had no backrest, but when I saw other people with them I ran to rent a couple, too. So, just keep in mind you can always rent the backrest if needed, and having the wall may not be as comfortable as you might think.

You'll love it! It is a beautiful theatre!

I've been involved in the theater for years. If Midsummer opens on April 30th, I'll wager they'll have a good estimate of running time about May 1. Seriously, they won't know how long the show is until they run it. There are a million variables.

We bought our tickets two weeks ago (it was worth it to join and get the advanced purchase) but are scheduling at least two and a half hours for both Midsummer and the matinee of Taming of the Shrew for earlier in the day.

Enjoy!

Having spent four hours standing on a concrete floor during a political rally last night, I can tell you we are very glad we decided against being groundlings for our upcoming Globe visit! :-)
