Getting to Paddington on a Weekday at 9am

Hi All,

I’ll need to get to Paddington station around 9am or so on a Tuesday. I’ve experienced rush hour in the tube with luggage in the past and it was terrible. Had to wait for a few trains before I could finally get on. That was around 7:30am. I’m considering a hotel in Marleybone the night before I head to Heathrow, but wondering what the tube commute will be like if I left at 9:00 (or a little before). Will it still be super crowded at that time? Is the bus a better option? I’ve read some articles that say rush hour is usually over by 9:00, but others say 9:30 to 10:00.

Another thought…I’ll be staying in Moreton-in-Marsh until Morning and was planning on heading to London that day. Since my airbnb is much cheaper than many hotels in London, I’ve also considered just staying one more night in Moreton and taking the train to Paddington that Tuesday morning (I don’t mind waking up earlier to do that). But would the trains into London be really crowded at that time too?

Any advice would be appreciated! :-)

Thanks,
Jonna

Going from Marylebone to Paddington you are going the opposite way to most of the morning commuters, so it may not be as bad as you think.

But, if you are staying, close to the north station connector bus #205 it may well be just as easy to take that bus.

Do yourself a favor and stay at the Premier Inn Paddington Basin that's located about 500 yards northeast of the Paddington train and tube station. It's a very nice, modern high rise hotel with a very good restaurant/bar. And the rates are much better than most other area hotels. And across the street (out the side door) from Paddington Station are a number of fast foods and reasonably priced restaurants.

We've stayed there a couple of times, and know how to go thru some alleys and across a bridge to get there. We were sitting in Heathrow Airport in about 30 minutes after leaving the hotel.

Go to Google Maps and enter Paddington Basin. Click on hotels at the top and hit ++ to magnify the screen. It pops up easily on the map.

You don’t have to go to Paddington to get transport to Heathrow. The relatively new Elizabeth line train now goes direct to LHR from stations across central London. And there is still the option of the Piccadilly tube line direct as well. Both options are a lot cheaper than the Heathrow Express if that’s what you’re planning and in the case of the Elizabeth line not much slower.

Thanks for the info! I'll check out that hotel.
I was looking at Dorset Square Hotel, which seems to be close to a bus stop. It also looks like it's only about a 5 minute walk to Marylebone station. I may end up with a hotel closer to Paddington to avoid the tube altogether, but wanted to see what my options. are.
