Getting to Avebury from London

Hi all, three of us are flying into London from the US in late April, and if we have time we'd like to visit Avebury to see the stones. I was at Avebury about 20 years ago and want to show the other gals.

I see on the English Heritage website that there's a train and a bus from Swindon, and a train to Swindon from Paddington. Is this the best way to get there? Is there a tour bus from London? The day would be either a Sunday or a Monday. We're all over 55, and will still be jet lagged, so the least amount of schlep is best. :)

English Heritage has a logical route. Drop your luggage off 1st. There seems to be some coach tours to Avebury from London that run about 140 dollars or more each. This may include Stonehenge and other choices such as Bath and Lacock. It may be raining, dress for the weather.

Yes the 49 runs hourly on a Sunday, half hourly on a weekday from Swindon Bus Station, which is half a block from Swindon Railway Station.
The top of the hour buses (the 7 day ones) are headed for Trowbridge.
The bottom of the hour ones (the weekday extras) are short journeys ending in Devizes, for connections to Bath.
It is a 30 minute ride Swindon to Avebury.
