Hello,
We want to see Les Miserables on Saturday night May 11th. I’ve looked at the prices on Ticketmaster & I was wondering how to get better ticket prices without standing in Leicester Square for a couple of hours. Showing up on a Saturday night doesn’t sound promising, but then again, I saw this musical in 1988…is it still so popular that it still sells out on weekends? Thank you!
Better ticket prices in this case probably means last-minute tickets, so
there is going to be a chance you don't get them, and you have less choice
over where you're going to sit.
If you are OK with that, another option than the TKTS booth is to install the
Todaytix app on your phone and plan on checking it frequently the day of
the show. They sell rush tickets through the app. Last year, I got tickets
while riding the train someplace in the afternoon for under 30 pounds
for the stalls.
There are multiple shows available through the app, so you should be able
to get some show no matter what. And you do get some idea of the seat
location before you buy (section and row, if I recall). The tickets are delivered
through the app, so it's easy.
Right now, there appears to be plenty of availability, so the outlook for decent
priced rush tickets seems promising.
Why would you look at Ticketmaster? There are tickets available directly from the theatre for that night’s performance. They are sold at face value, but you do not have to stand in line for hours for a discount ticket. If you are going to spend the time and money to see a show, better to buy in advance online to have a choice and get decent seats.
You can use the Theatre Monkey website to help, you find that best seats in your price range.
I saw Les Miserables in 1996 and again in 2019. Five years ago, we bought tickets in advance online. This was for February on a weekday, and I was glad we did because there were no seats available through the box office even a week before the show. If you really have your heart set on seeing it on a Saturday, I would buy the tickets online now.
This is a better representation of the seats available for your desired performance:

As you can see, it's selling quite well, and the better seats in the lower price ranges are already gone.
There may not be any seats available at the TKTS booth or their online site on the day of the show, unless they release house seats. If you really want to see it, better to buy now - best to buy directly from the theater site using the link provided earlier.
Thank you for all of your help! My 30 yr old son & I only have 3 nights in London, but we hope to make the most of it. We’re staying next to Waterloo Station in Park Plaza County Hall & it looks like it’s convenient enough to the two theatres w Hamilton & Les Miserables. Our biggest concern is where to eat after the shows. Are there exceptional restaurants which could be recommended in the area of Sondheim & Victoria Palace open for theatre goers? We love Indian & Thai…
I saw the restaurant Fish in the Boroughs area for Sunday’s dinner. Anyone been there for seafood?
We’re so excited to be in London, we don’t know where to hardly begin. Thank you for ALL of your suggestions & advice. The 11th to 14th will go quickly but those two shows & some great meals are what we look forward to. Of course, during the day, the London Museum & the Imperial War Museum are on our list! Thanks for the tips!

You don’t have to stand in line. TKTS releases tickets online for the day’s performances at midnight.

Keep in mind that some shows are rarely available at a discount. Buy these online from the agent that operates the official box office. You can find info on theatremonkey about tickets and best seats:

With regard to dinner after the show, are you going to evening performances or matinees? There aren’t too many restaurants that offer dinner after 10pm so you may need to venture a bit further for a late night meal.
I have never seen Les Mis tickets sold at a discount. It’s still a popular show. It’s only the shows that aren’t selling so well that ever offer discounts. For dinner you could try J Sheekey for seafood in Covent Garden. I think they are open late.
You could always visit Seven Dials Market and find a place to eat. It is a 10-15 minute stroll from the Sondheim Theatre.
Just go ahead and buy the tickets in advance if this is an important part of your trip. There are times to scrimp and times to spend.
