Getting from Whitby to Bristol

I have booked HF Holidays in Whitby and will need to get to Bristol afterwards. It’s not looking very easy.
I’m wondering if I should cancel the HF Holidays N. York Moors. I will be in the Western Dales for 3 nights, then Grassington 4 nights , and York for 3 nights. If I skip the N York Moors holiday I could spend time somewhere between York and Bristol for 3 nights or just more time in Bristol.

Any suggestions?

Or the more frequent hourly bus to Scarborough (especially as the HF house at Larpool is on that route- the X93/X94, so you would have to go into Whitby first to get the fairly infrequent Whitby to York bus). The X93/X94 bus goes to Scarborough station. Then train to York and on to Bristol.

The X93/X94 to Scarborough is the route the HF suggest, and the one I would too.

1 hour on the bus to Scarborough, 50 minutes on the train to York every hour, then 3 hours 45 minutes to Bristol every hour.

By the way I hope you have enjoyed the good weather at Keswick this weekend. I was actually in Keswick this afternoon, for longer than planned due to a broken down bus.

I don't see any need to cancel the North York Moors. This is an easier journey than appears at first glance. The trick is not to take the train out of Whitby to Middlesborough (only a few a day), then Middlesborough to York, direct every hour- purely due to the infrequency of service and the slow route to Middlesborough.

PS- @ Lola has been to quite a few of the HF houses, and is a great ambassador for them.

If she sees this and has been there she may have more specific suggestions.

PPS- I am on a train now Hexham bound. All the departure boards are so far showing everything running as normal. So., fingers crossed, your transfer to Sedbergh should go off without a hitch.

I am screenshotting your instructions because I’m sure I’ll be referring to them frequently. The bus drivers have been very kind, btw.

Saturday was beautiful. Unfortunately I spent Friday night in the toilet and was so exhausted Saturday all I could do was sleep and occasionally gaze out my window. Finally on Sunday I was able to do the Around Derwent Water walk.

Very nice people at HF Holidays. I’m off to Sedbergh today!

To Grassington on Friday, whatever signs on stops may or may not say, there is a bus on Friday at 1020 from outside Sedbergh HF to Oxenholme, arriving at 1045.
Then a choice of 4 trains to Lancaster- a 13 minute ride.
Lancaster depart 1246, on a Leeds bound train.
Skipton arrive 1358.
Bus 72 from outside the station entrance at 1445, Grassington arrive 1510.

Thank you again. Excellent instructions.
I may have a ride. Someone at HF is stopping by Grassington on their way home to York.
I love it here.

I did not see any of abbeygurl’s posts until just now. What a wonderful trip you have going on.

We should be hiking in the Peak District with HF Holidays right now, but we canceled our whole trip to the UK when my husband developed shingles 2 weeks ago. He was in great pain but is much better now. But I have been rather distracted, and spending a lot of time canceling the arrangements for the trip and getting together the documents to submit to the trip insurance company. Plus re-doing our September trip to Italy for hiking with HF Holidays. They canceled our Abruzzo week for lack of participation, and we transferred to a week of hiking at Lago Maggiore on different dates. We actually like this Lago Maggiore trip better; I don’t know why I did not choose it in the first place. But it means a lot of re-shuffling flights and hotel reservations I made for the Abruzzo trip.

I saw your other thread asking for suggestions for your time after you leave Whitby. I was just about to suggest some HF Holidays options until I saw you have already joined several of those in your trip thus far. It looks like you are getting great suggestions from the UK forum members and others. But if I think of anything they haven’t mentioned I will post on your other thread.
