Getting from London to Caen Hill

My adult children and I are traveling from London- the hotel is near the Eye- to Caen Hill. (Poulshot turn).
We need to arrive by mid-morning.

What is the best way to make this happen? We’re not carrying any luggage. This is just a day trip to the Caen Hill Countryside Centre. Car, bus, train? A combination?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have googled Caen Hill. It’s near Devizes in Wiltshire.

There isn’t an easy way to get there. Presumably if you are staying in central London, you won’t have a car. By the time you went somewhere to hire a car and found your way to Wiltshire, it would possibly take as long as using public transport and longer if travelling in the rush hour.

Your public transport option is take the underground to Paddington Station, then a train to Swindon and from there you would need to catch a number 49 bus, which runs hourly and takes just over an hour to Caen Hill. Obviously so many changes and transport modes could mean that you are delayed. It’s about 3 hours door to door.

Wow. That's some day trip.

It sort of depends on what you mean by mid-morning. 9 or 10, or, 10 or 11?

2 and a half hours or 3 hours perhaps each way so you and the adult children will have to get a shift on. You won't want a car near Waterloo, unless money doesn't matter for the very high prices for parking, Congestion Charge, ULEZ charge, Sadiq Charge. If that's of no issue then its out the M4 to the Hungerford turn, Jct 14 and cross country.

By train it would be tube or cab to Paddington, the GWR train to Swindon, then bus or cab to the farm.

Their website is many months out of date as far the covid rules and procedures go in England, and they do highlight their Avian Flu problems and procedures.

How did you settle on this day trip? Is it to visit friends or family? If so, could they collect you at Swindon station?
