Hello,
I will be a student at Kingston University in the Kingston Upon Thames area of London. On September 25 I will be leaving for a weekend trip to Paris at 7:55 in the morning. What is the easiest and quickest way to get there from Kingston. I will be staying in the New Malden area but would rather not give out the full address. I understand I need to be there an hour ahead also. So, I need to leave quite early I believe. What is the quickest way to go?
I see at www.nationalrail.co.uk that trains from Kingston station to Paddington start at 5:00 Mon-Fri. That site recommends a very quick connection to the Tube at Vauxhall to get to London St. Pancras at 6:00. Do go for this early departure, not the one an hour later.
Trains from Kingston or New Malden arrive at Waterloo not Paddington. It's a pity Eurostar switched from there to St Pancras. I would suggest travelling from Waterloo to St Pancras by taking the Bakerloo Line to Oxford Circus and then the Victoria Line from there to St Pancras. If you have very heavy luggage there is a through bus route 59 between the two stations to avoid using the escalators and stairs on the tube, but it will be slower, although possibly faster than usual that early in the morning.
Remember that the Eurostar has a minimum check-in time of 30 minutes before departure and it's better to aim to get to St Pancras earlier than that.
Journey planners seem to suggest changing to the Victoria Line at Vauxhall rather than carrying on to Waterloo. Probably preferable, although the interchange does involve a lot of stairs.
Vauxhall is a much better transfer point that it used to be except at peak times - but the OP will be through before that builds up.
