Getting from Central London to Binfield?

I'll be visiting London with my wife in October and we want to visit her old hometown in Binfield.

What would be our options for transportation? The last resort would be for us to rent a car (probably via Turo or ZipCar) and drive there. However, neither of us feel 100% comfortable driving in London.

We would only be spending part of the day there and then visiting Windsor castle on the way back.

Would it be ridiculously expensive to hire a driver for the day? I got an estimate from Belgraves of London for about £1080.00

Any suggestions would be great.

Assuming it’s Binfield near Bracknell, the straightforward plan would be to take the train from Waterloo to Bracknell and then a taxi for the last 3 miles. The train takes about an hour and the overall time probably quicker than driving..

although Binfield doesn't have a station it is quite close to Bracknell which is served by South Western Trains between London Waterloo and Reading (where there is a connection to GWR into Paddington and Slough for Windsor Castle (and the Elizabeth serving those and more)).

Taxi from Bracknell will be a tiny fraction of your thousand pound quote, and because of a local driver will know just where to take you in Binfield.

thanks for the replies!

How hard would it be to get a taxi from Bracknell/Wokingham to Binfield and vice versa?

If you are then visiting Windsor bus 703 runs hourly from Bracknell to Windsor, then on to Heathrow and central London.
It costs £2 each.
The train to Bracknell costs £13.10 and runs every 30 minutes.
So train, taxi, bus to Windsor and train back to London from Windsor is about £35 each.
There are also local buses Bracknell to Binfield.

most stations have an Onward Travel poster on line at National Rail website. The one for Bracknell is at https://assets.nationalrail.co.uk/e8xgegruud3g/4UXPqUfbeWhck9PwhjrQWE/01b28378d53f64165a54648b9f2f697e/BracknellBCEOTI.pdf

On it are three taxi company's phone numbers, the three bus routes serving Binfield and which stop they go from (zoom in) and a couple of handy maps.

One note - at the moment the lifts to get you from one platform to the other at Bracknell are out of order, if that's important and your trip is imminent.

The one for Wokingham is https://assets.nationalrail.co.uk/e8xgegruud3g/7ldmCEiZc8F3k0HS2omCRt/7fd9a2a0583f03d6483fb444cdbde422/WokinghamWKMOTI.pdf
