Is there a reasonably priced way to get around the Cotswalds without a car? All the tour groups seem to be booked. We need to go from Bath to Cheltenham to Sudley Castle back to Cheltenham to Stanway house to Morton en Marsh. Any suggestions? Is there an alternative to Uber? Does Lyft operate there?
Is this all in one day? And is this a need or a want?
Lyft does not operate overseas. It’s international service is Freenow. Depending on location it may be a private driver like in the US or a taxi service. I’ve used it in Dublin and it works fine.
Freenow and Uber do not generally operate in rural areas such as the Cotswolds (note spelling - a ‘wold’ is an area of rolling hills).
You can take the train from Bath Spa to Cheltenham Spa with a change at Bristol Temple Meads.
The Sudeley Castle website has information on public transport from Cheltenham railway station to the castle.
It appears that Stanway House is not directly served by buses but it should be possible to book a direct taxi to/from Cheltenham and/or Moreton in Marsh.
For Stanway House you could potentially use Toddington Station (from Cheltenham Racecourse) on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, then Pulhams run the hourly bus #801 to Moreton-in-Marsh - 75 minute journey time.
Like all other buses in England that is £3 maximum fare per journey.
The steam train is another valid route to Winchcombe for Sudeley Castle, beside the (much cheaper) bus.
