Getting Around Northampshire

We are staying in London the first part of our trip in August but I really want to go to Achurch, UK because there is a lot of family history for me there. My husband is not convinced and thinks we will have a hard time getting around. Can anyone recommend how to get around and places to stay? Ive looked at Airbnb and the locations are charming! Thanks in advance!

Northamptonshire is a very pretty but underrated & undervisited county. Some of the villages are reminiscent of the Cotswolds, with golden stone.

There aren’t many major attractions although there’s a handful of stately homes. Also while the villages are mostly lovely, the big towns really aren’t that interesting (sorry, Kettering & Northampton). Oundle is a pretty small town, and you’d not be far from Stamford in Lincolnshire, which is gorgeous. I guess Corby is interesting for fans of council houses and concrete - it was developed in the 60s as a steelworkers’ town.

You’d need a car to enjoy it. It would give you an interesting central base for exploring bits of England.

How many days do you plan spending in East Northants?

Achurch and its beautiful neighbour Wavenhoe are both very small and very rural. The two nearest (very near) towns are Thrapston and Oundle.

Will this be at the start or end of August?

Sorry I haven't been back again sooner.

I've been looking at my calendar and was hoping I could do something else to help you but I can't during that period.

Have you made any progress?
