We are flying into Gatwick and taking Rick’s advice to start off somewhere smaller than London like Bath. Is there an easy way to get from Gatwick to Bath? We will be landing around noon or 1pm the day after the Coronation.
Also if we decided against Bath, can folks recommend another good town/city that isn’t too far from London? Is York difficult from Gatwick/Heathrow or a super long trip?
After a long transatlantic flight when jet lagged, I want a straightforward journey, not a journey involving switching trains and buses and certainly not traversing London.
Places that involve only one train from Gatwick include Brighton and Lewes - both have enough to keep you occupied for a couple of days, but if your trip is short, then it maybe a waste of your holiday time. I would head to London.
We stayed in Lewes in September for a couple of nights and were pleasantly surprised. It's less than half an hour train ride from Gatwick. I wouldn't compare it as being as impressive as Bath, but it is a simple train ride.
What's the rest of your plan? How about York?
