Gatwick express?

We are 3 people. ( my mom is 72 and hubby and I are in our late forties)

We are looking at an apartment close to Buckingham Palace and it came to my attention that there is a Gatwick Express at Victoria Station.

After a month in the country with more than carry ons would you call a taxi to Gatwick or take the Express?

I appreciate opinions on both sides.

Take the Thameslink or Southern Trains service from Gatwick - cheaper than the Gatwick Express.

You won't have any issues if your luggage has wheels - it's mainly Americans that travel for a month with only hand luggage - most Europeans wouldn't dream of doing this and would take a large 20 kg holdall, so public transport can cope with luggage.

Taxi to Victoria Station and then whatever the next train is to Gatwick. Not sure if there is any cost saving but the road trip from London to Gatwick can be excruciatingly slow due to traffic, road works, etc. Train journey varies in length but less than 1 hour whereas taxi takes a couple of hours at least. You can also take a bus (coach) from the Victoria Bus Station which is just behind Athens train station.

You won't find Athens station in London.

As you know by now in your search, descriptions can be vague. Where "near Buckingham Palace?"

If you are that close to Victoria, I wouldn't make the extra effort to get to Blackfriars to get the Thameslink. Gatwick Express or Southern will do fine. 35 minutes or so for Southern, half an hour for Gatwick Express. Nowhere near as long as one hour.

Which couple of apartments are now in the running?
