FYI—Updated Rick Steves London episode with a look behind the scenes

Monday Night Travel (MNT) has the new Rick Steves' Europe - "London: A Royal Tour" episode with commentary from regular MNT travel host Ben and Rick’s new producer Josh. Josh had some great insights on the planning and filming of the episode.

We’re watching it now. Having Josh as a co-host gives a fascinating look at how the shows are produced and filmed. That the filming “crew” is only 3 people was one of the surprise facts of the episode. That and the glimpse behind the curtain as to how many purple shirts Rick packs!

We also enjoyed this episode. I almost didn't bother to watch it, having seen Rick's other presentations on London, and assuming it was just pretty much more of the same, but this was great. Other guests, Cameron, for example, and even Rick himself, give us peeks into the process of making the shows, but Josh was so excited, obviously loving his job and enjoying sharing his knowledge.

More episodes like this, please, MNT team!

I enjoyed this episode! I love the UK and all of his UK episodes. And my question was picked at the end. I asked if Rick has any plans to do new Ireland shows any time soon, because it's been a VERY long time since his last Ireland shows. I think they are the oldest shows available. They said they didn't know, but would also like to see a new Ireland show.

We are considering Ireland or Scotland for my daughter's graduation trip in 2027, and it would be really nice if there was a new show or two on Ireland before then. He's done so many shows on countries like England, France, and Italy. It seems like Ireland, while maybe not as popular, is still a much loved destination and there would be plenty of interest.

Hi MaryC, It sounds like you’re a frequent watcher of MNT, so you probably already know that there have been a couple of shows on Ireland, just without the updated footage. Lisa hosted one episode with former Rick tour guide Stephen McPhilemy, and there was at least one with Cameron talking about one of his trips to update the guidebook.

Yes, Carrie, thanks!

I've watched the MNT episodes on Ireland. I'm just really wishing Rick would do a new show on Ireland. I think his last shows there were in 2003. Keeping my fingers crossed!

This is why I'm always a bit reluctant to recommend Rick's travel shows to folks about to travel, he highlights the date of filming at the very end of each episode (and also on this website if you do some digging) and many of them are ten years old or older.

It's not like the Tower of London has changed since that time and the Thames still flows in the same directions, and I believe Rick has made that point as well, but hours prices and procedures certainly have so I always have to say, Use this show as a visual guide to the sights of the city but you still need his most current guidebook to fill in the details.
