Wow! Thanks, Carrie!
Good article. Carrie, thanks for sharing.
Great info, thanks, Carrie!
There's some good info to the newbie started, and also some stuff that's a little bit deeper. A good, broad article that reads like it was researched and written by humans.
A regular contributor here mentioned how much London has gone east recently, where Whitechapel is more central than Chelsea, which I thought was a clever way of putting it. Whitechapel gets a mention for South Asian food I see. There's two references to Walthamstow (north east London), the William Morris Gallery and the new Soho Theatre Walthamstow, which I didn't realise had opened already. Good to see them repeat what I've said a few times on here about Upper Street in Islington as a food destination.
Cheers!
Good article but it didn't mention the Piccadilly underground line from Heathrow to Central London. The cheapest option of them all. Just to clarify, you don't need to spend £10 on an Oyster card, just use your contactless bank card to tap in and out of the the tube and on buses. The system calculates your lowest fare.
I'm keeping an eye on the progress of the new Piccadilly Line trains. Definitely 2026 now scheduled for them going into service. It brings the Piccadilly Line up to the same standards of modern trains as the Elizabeth Line in from Heathrow.
Thanks for the info!
Wondering if anyone has some recommendations for a decent, affordable (and most importantly safe) place to stay in downtown London - don't need amenities, really just a place to sleep and preferably something walkable to transit.
ShellyP saying downtown London doesn’t clarify where you’d like to stay. What’s your budget?
When are you going! What are your interests? History, theatre, shopping, architecture, food, parks?
Been visiting since Nixon was in office so have experienced staying in a variety of London’s neighborhoods. Last visit Nov/Dec 2024.
Take a look at the Premiere Inn Website. If a first time visitor I’d suggest the County Hall PI or the Blackfriars PI which is near the Tower of London.
HUB Premier Inns are smaller versions of regular PI’s. Would depend on your comfort level.
Great city. Enjoy your stay.
