FYI: London Olympic Hotel update

My friend and I booked this hotel based on Rick’s London guide. (*I bought my copy of Rick’s London Guide during the Pandemic. Maybe it is no longer listed in the 2022 version.) I’ve successfully used Rick’s guide for hotels many times in the past.
It IS close to Paddington and inexpensive as London hotels go, but the advertised continental breakfast consists of very hard boiled eggs, white toast, sliced luncheon meat, cheese and 2 kinds of dry cereal; there is an air conditioner in our room but we had to call down to the desk every two hours if we wanted it on! (And it has been very hot in London!) Most of the desk clerks and the breakfast servers were not very friendly. Also, the Wi-Fi is extremely spotty! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel anymore.

I have just looked at the Trip Advisor reviews for the Olympic Hotel as I haven’t heard of it. Recent reviews all rate it 1 or 2 out of 5 and all say don’t stay here. Or do you mean the Olympic House Hotel? Slightly better reviews, but still not particularly good.

Sorry about your experience, but things have changed with a shortage of staff post Brexit and the pandemic. Maybe it’s not in the current guide for a reason. I hope your next hotel is better.

Unfortunate. However, such a continental breakfast isn’t unheard of throughout Europe.

It would be helpful for you to post this review under the trip reports banner as well.

Next London trip ( if there is a next trip ) consider using the Premier Inn chain. Good locations, food is good ( yes an additional fee) and usually attentive staffs.

Then after Covid lockdowns….who knows?

Covid has impacted travel….a reality.

Jennifer…oops, it is the Olympic House Hotel.

And Claudia, thanks for the suggestion.

And I will definitely come back to London. 🙂
