Full Day at Hever Castle?

My family will be visiting Hever Castle in late March. My mom and I are excited to visit as we’re very interested in the Tudor time period!

We’ll be heading there via train. I believe we’ll need to hire a cab ahead of time to meet us st the Edenbridge town station to drive us the 3 miles to the castle.

For those who have visited Hever Castle before, should we plan to spend the whole day at the castle? I’m trying to plan our itinerary and just wondering if we’d probably be busy there most of the day and not return to London until evening.

Thanks!

I was there a couple years ago and walked the foot paths from the train station. I have knee problems and iit was not that long a walk and was really fun. The directions are given on the web site I believe. It is probably not a full day as Hever Castle is small, but I did spend at least a 1/2 day including walking to the lake and having tea. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep in mind that getting there and that back to London is what makes it almost a full day.

We didn't spend more than a few hours at Hever Castle. Well worth visiting but a whole day would be a waste of time you could spend elsewhere.

Thanks! If the weather cooperates, I would certainly prefer to walk there through the countryside. Was it easy to follow the way to the castle? My 75 and 79 year old parents will be with me, but they are both good walkers.

If it is really rainy or muddy though, I think I'll keep the taxi company as a back up plan.

I figured it'd only be 2 or 3 hours at the castle, but I'm sure transportation eats up quite a bit of time.

I've been there a few times ( a relative keeps taking me because they forget I've been before), and we are usually there 90-120 minutes... give or take

If you are all walkers, definitely take the train to the Hever Station stop and take the mile walk from there, it's a gorgeous walk.....weather permitting.
I spent a few hours there, but I explored the gardens more than anything. The house doesn't take a great deal of time, it's gorgeous though.

The path was pretty easy to follow, but at one point I must have gotten off track and ended up in a field with a flock of sheep. They were friendly and I just walked to the corner of the field where I could see trees and sure enough there was the path again. I was alone, but never concerned and it was one of my favorite memories of the day.

I was lucky to have friends drive me. We spent part of the day at Hever Castle (I'm a huge Tudor wonk) and part of the day at Chartwell, with a leisurely pub lunch between them. We had ample time to see both.

I'll be in London in mid March and hadn't thought about Hever Castle until I read your thread. Food for thought. Thank you.
