From London-Nice France or Edinburgh/Glascow

My wife and I are returning to London for 9 days over the end of Sept/into October not including arrival and departure days on both ends. We need at least 3 full days in London to see sights we were unable to see the last time. We’re torn between taking a flight to Nice or attempting to visit both Edinburgh/Glascow with the remaining time. Those 6 days would have to include travel time. Our odds of better weather would be Nice however we could lock down our decision closer to the the travel days if the weather looks good at one or the other. The downside to Nice is two days we would be there are Monday and Tuesday. Apparently a lot of cultural sights are closed on those 2 days. We’re not adverse to coming back at future time to spend a longer time in Scotland. Any thoughts and thank you in advance.

In Nice, the Chagall, Matisse, and Masséna museums are all open on Mondays, but closed Tuesdays.

The Modern and the Beaux-Arts Museums are closed on Mondays but open on Tuesdays.

Nearby in Antibes, both the Picasso and the History and Archaeology museums are closed on Mondays but open on Tuesdays.

North of Nice, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Foundation Maeght museum is open every day.

I would be wary of “we could lock down our decision closer to the travel days if the weather looks good at one or the other.” Where are you coming from? Surely if you are going to do London-Nice, you need to buy totally different airline tickets than if you do London/Edinburgh-Glasgow. I don’t see how that would leave you with flexibility in the few days before travel when you start getting weather forecasting for the relevant days.

We’re flying from Denver to LHR. We have a fairly good 10 day weather window in general. I’ve looked at flights 3-4 days out currently and prices are reasonable and there’s always a flight. My question is more Nice or Scotland? I have 4 days net taking off 2 travel days. Odds of Nice having better weather or would 4 days be too much.

Scotland. Just because it will decrease the time lost to relocating.

Nice is always going to be warmer and drier than Scotland. You need to think how bad would the weather have to be in Scotland for you to decide you’d rather not go? And if that threshold is quite low then you’d be far better off just booking Nice now.

On the other hand, if you’d really prefer to go to Scotland unless the weather forecast is for absolutely non stop torrential rain then you could wait it out.
