Can anyone give me any thoughts on decent football to go see within say a 30 minutes drive of the Cotswolds or inside it? We're considering having a "touristy free" day on our Saturday there and may like to take in a game. Something with good English atmosphere would be much appreciated.
You don't say when which would make a difference.
But given you'll be somewhere in the Cotswolds, then going to watch a rugby match would be a better choice. Bath, Gloucester, perhaps Bristol. If it must be (association) football, there is always Swindon or Oxford U depending on where you are staying.
Looking on a map I would say Swindon Town, Oxford United, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers are the nearest well-known clubs. Not in the Premier League but the next leagues below.
As an area, it’s not known as hotbed for football.
Awesome, thanx!
It's Aug.31st I'm looking for, so Swindon is at home. The other places are too far or not at home.
So my next stupid question... Do you need to get tickets in advance or is Swindon a place where you can walk up and get them?
Just to be certain to pick the best viewing seats, I suggest get tickets in advance.
You won't need to buy in advance for Swindon v Morecombe but just to flag although this is a 'League 2' fixture it's actually the 4th tier of English football. Oxford v Coventry would probably give you a better game being the division above and better atmosphere with more travelling fans as there are relatively close together.
