Hi all,
I’ll be in London, Bath, York, Keswick, and Edinburgh this coming spring and would like to see some live music. I hear there are some traditional/folk-focused pubs/venues around. We also would like to see local rock shows. Have any of you got recommendations for venues and/or specific local groups to look out for in any of the above listed towns? Any website suggestions?
There are folk music clubs pretty much everywhere from small towns upwards. Doing a google search nearer the time for live music in Bath, York and Keswick should bring up some events, mostly in local pubs. Some pubs will have a regular night when music is on, sometimes more than one night a week. Larger cities like London and Edinburgh will have all sorts going on pretty much every night.
Rock music will be similar although less likely in pubs and more likely in slightly bigger venues up to the very biggest.
The best city for live music in the country is Manchester, with Glasgow probably second. Both have lots for tourists to see as well, although they rarely seem to feature in itineraries on here.
if you can delay your trip a few weeks, Rod Stewart is headlining at Glasto this year, but I think that the tix have been scarfed
Nigel - he isn't a headliner at Glastonbury. Stewart will be on the legends slot on Sunday afternoon. None of the headliners have yet been revealed. All the tickets in the main first sale sold out in 40 minutes. There will be a smaller re-sale around April but the chances of getting tickets then are very remote.
Also the festival is in late June so probably not the early Spring that Esby will be here. In any event you would want to go to the festival from the Wednesday to the Sunday to get best value for your tickets. And be prepared to camp for that time or pay a huge amount for one of the many more luxurious options. And there isn't a lot of folk music there either!
I will be there, but probably not watching Rod Stewart!
Here is a very recent post that discusses live music in the UK. There are a lot of links and some good info. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/scotland/scottish-music-tour-guide-in-glasgow-or-edinburgh
