Particularly poignant as after the flypast went over Sheffield where the crash took place they continued south to Cambridge and flew over the Cambridge American Cemetery where three of the crew were interred.
All because 75 years ago an 8 year old boy was spared and he wanted to recognise and commemorate the flight crew who let him have his life - 75 years on.
I saw a couple of news reports on that event today and was very moved. What an incredibly heroic act by the crew of the B-17.
Unfortunately, not shown on last night’s NBC news.
I watched them fly over and there were hundreds of folk in the park above the station.
By the look if it must have been 5000 or more at Endcliffe Park..
