My husband and I are travelling to London in the spring. We land at Gatwick at 6:50 am and have planned to start our trip in Amsterdam and end in London as opposed to staying in London the entire length of our trip. Our question is, should we have enough time to make a 10:40 am flight to Amsterdam from Gatiwick (assuming no significant delays or travel issues) if we land at 6:50 am? We're not sure what the customs/immigration process is there or if we would have to go through after landing from the US before boarding our Amsterdam flight?
A 3 hour layover is enough time. Last December I landed at Gatwick at 7:00 and caught a 10:00 but it was from the same terminal. There are 2 terminals at Gatwick. Which airlines are you flying? Are you buying a separate ticket to Amsterdam or is this all on British Airways?
We are flying Virgin Atlantic into Gatwick but the flight to Amsterdam would be with British Airways
That is a enough time but of course you know that if the first flight is late causing you to miss the one to Amsterdam that Virgin Atlantic is not liable, therefore should know your options if this happens.
And look at which terminal your flights land and depart from at Gatwick
Don’t know your budget, travel style, time constraints. We hate having a non-protected connection hanging over our head, with any time between, so we never do this. Yes, should everything go well you’ll make it. Otherwise, you won’t, you lose your money and have to make last minute flight arrangements all while brain dead from an overseas flight. We flew into Gatwick a few years ago with our ultimate destination Lisbon. We elected to spend a night here, a 20 minute ride from the airport https://www.alexanderhotels.co.uk/langshott-manor/. We dropped our bags there and walked down a country lane to a pub where we enjoyed a beer and some snacks with the locals (and sort of crashed a wake). We walked back, checked in, got a shower and nap then an excellent dinner at their restaurant. Taxi to Gatwick the next day and arrived in Lisbon completely refreshed, ready to go.
Will you have checked luggage? If not, you shouldn't have to go through UK immigration.

Have you priced an open jaw itinerary to make travel easier and much less stressful for you? .
