We are traveling to London in April 2025 and then on to Liverpool. Flying home out of Manchester to Atlanta.
Any suggestions for the most expeditious way to get to the Manchester airport from Liverpool? Train, taxi or Uber? Looks like it may take over an hour to drive to Manchester but worried that there may be train delays.
Thanks for any help
There is a through train to Manchester Airport from Liverpool Lime Street every hour and several others with one change in Manchester every hour.
I'm not sure why you think there might be train delays, but not road delays.
Depending where you are starting in Liverpool the most obvious route by car is the M62/M6/M56- the leg down the M6 especially is a notorious bottle neck area. Only last night a lorry plunged off the road at Thelwall, causing a full motorway closure for many hours with traffic going nowhere very fast for a long time.
The route then was probably M62 the wrong way round then the motorway system through the Central Manchester motorways adding time to the journey. There is no magic alternative route when there is a problem in the area, everything backs up. The sheer volume of diverted traffic is beyond the capacity of local roads to handle.
If starting on the Wirral you might come down the M53 then the M56 via Thelwall Interchange. But if something happened either at Thelwall or elsewhere or there were merely roadworks you could still end up with delays.
Whichever method you choose allow ample time or, even better, travel to MAN the previous night.
Good info thx as I was actually very worried about possible road delays even tho I did not state this.
