Flooding in the London and South East Area

After heavy rain all weekend there is widespread disruption today on rail travel across the South East of England (including all services to Gatwick Airport and to/from Victoria) and on the London tube network, due to flooding.

The issues are too numerous to note, and this is a live and changing situation, but just to be aware and to take local advice on other routes (which may include buses).

The Overground lines to Watford Junction are affected at the time of writing (8.20am) (the slow trains) but the fast lines are open- so it shouldn't affect people on this forum.

also in the East Midlands and East Anglia. Bedford has a great deal of water, half way up some cars, the Bedford - Bletchley rail line is shut. We are being cautioned against travel. There is an amber weather warning in London, southern England and central England; a yellow one for most of the rest of England except far southwest and some parts of northern England, and eastern Wales .

My rain gauge completely filled yesterday, emptied it and it is completely filled today.

Look and use common sense before travelling.

Thanks for this Stuart. I had not thought to check as we had come down from the dry north west last night. We needed to get to Gatwick from east London late morning so I was concerned but when checking found the Thameslink trains at least were fine. At Farringdon all the trains seemed to be delayed but only for 5/10 minutes and for reasons seemingly unconnected with the floods.

Meanwhile in the Lake District we continue with our 'Indian Summer'. Doors and windows open today as for the whole of the last week.

I was meant to be in Liverpool today but the forecast is for the rain to reach that far north. With three external site visits to do on the Wirral that has had to be postponed to a better weather day.
