Flights to and from the UK

Hello!

I am planning a trip to Newcastle next year flying out of JFK. I noticed today if I reverse the outbound and return flight (fly out of Newcastle and return leaving JFK) the cost of the flights are cut in half! It’s so much cheaper and it just reverses the order of the flights. Is it possible to call the airline and see if I can get that price?

Of course it's possible to call the airline, but the answer will most likely be no. Airline pricing works in mysterious ways, but the system has probably decided that New Yorkers are willing to pay more for a trip across the Atlantic than Geordies are.

Also, Americans are often too focused on trying to find a flight to the exact city they are visiting, while in Europe it can often be a better idea to fly to a nearby city with a major airport and take the train the last bit. So you can also see what it would cost to fly to Manchester or Edinburgh.

Fact of life is that transatlantic return airfares tend to be more expensive when they originate from the USA than the UK, the major exception being the "low cost" airlines with single leg pricing.

Are the prices for the NY to NCL direct RT a lot more than a connection thru LHR?

We are hoping to fly into NCL or EDI in spring if 2025. I just wish they would add a WAS airport departure for RT to NCL. I haven’t started pricing airfare from NYC and will probably just need to go to LHR and connect.

Probably, since you would need to charter a private jet to fly direct from New York to Newcastle.

You don't need to connect to Newcastle through Heathrow. You can connect through Amsterdam or Paris as two examples.

The only direct flight to NCL currently from the USA is from Orlando, although there have been others in the past.

You could book the journey as two separate one way flights rather than a return if that saves you money.

Learning something new today…Badger I thought the flight the OP was referring to was a non stop to NCL - commercial of course. For some reason I thought I remembered there being one from WAS that was discontinued. I guess the ease to see Mickey and Co. makes Orlando a prime option, though! A connecting flight is in my future I guess- no biggie 😊

Adding to the suggestions of Amsterdam and Paris you should also look at Dublin. Connecting through Dublin has the advantage of US pre-clearance on the way back, turning your last flight into effectively a domestic one.

The flight we are doing is with Aer Lingus. The flight has a stop in Dublin because there are no direct flights. The number of stops doesn’t bother me. I just wish I could pay the cost that people are paying to fly to the US and then fly home

I'd be interested to know the dates and price of your outbound and return flights from New York to Newcastle - then those on this side of the Atlantic could compare.

I used kayak to figure out flipping the outbound and return flight changed the cost by so much. I kept the dates the same. The dates are June 2-14
