fist week of May in Scotland

What about midges? I'll be on a bus tour with Scottish tours across the country and stopping at the Isle of Skye. Should be be concerned and wear a repellent?

No, I was in Scotland for the first 3 1/2 weeks of May and only ran into midges once, and that was on the Isle of Arran in a very boggy and damp place. Other than that, no midges. They usually don't come out till June.

Midges like damp humid conditions and especially trees. when they start to appear depends on temperature and they can start appearing at the end of April. Beginning of May you should be OK, especially out in the open and anywhere there is a breeze - they don't like wind.
