Fishguard to Bath on a Saturday?

Help! We planned a family trip in Ireland and England for July. Everything is just about set, except how we can get from Fishguard to Bath after taking the ferry. We arrive in Fishguard at like 12:30. It doesn't seem that there are any car rental places in Fishguard open on Saturday! Can we pay a taxi for our family of four?

The cost of a taxi / private hire car for that journey would be over £400.

The best option would be to use a different route from Ireland. The simplest for Bath would probably be to fly to Bristol (from Belfast or Dublin) and take the bus from there but you have left it rather late for the best fares.

Otherwise if you have already paid for the ferry the other option is the train at around half that price for 4.

If you haven't booked the ferry yet look into Sailrail which will cost you less than just the railfare!

This is not a reasonable taxi distance. Trains meet the ferry, departing Fishguard Harbour station at 12:43 with a connection in Cardiff. If you haven't already bought ferry tickets, you can get discounted "SailRail" combination tickets from www.nationalrail.co.uk. That Advance discount is actually cheaper for the whole route than the AnyTime fares for just the train portion. But even without an Advance discount, booking online will save you having to stop and buy a ticket in the train station. Don't dawdle when departing the ferry because the next train is not for several hours.

You can book a through ticket as foot passengers from Rosslare to Bath Spa on this site:>https://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferries-to-ireland/rail-sail/find-and-book

So, that is the ferry plus the train to Cardiff where you change for another train to Bath. It it looks like one train to Bath is scheduled to leave Cardiff just before the one from Fishguard arrives. If the train from Fishguard arrives early, you might just catch a train to Bath - it should be on platform 2 with Portsmouth as the destination. These normally leave on the half hour. On the hour, another train leaves Cardiff for Bristol Temple Meads. Here you can change to any train that is going Bath. Also consider having an overnight in Cardiff - which would mean Rosslare to Cardiff ticket and then Cardiff to Bath ticket. (www.nationalrail.co.uk)
