Fishbourne Roman Palace

Hi all,

I am considering visiting the Fishbourne Roman Palace in May of this year. I am interested in the Roman history of England, and think it will be very interesting.

Has anyone been here? I would appreciate knowing what you thought of the mosaics that I believe you see by walking on walkways built above the mosaics?

What other displays are here?

Thanks very much in advance,
Virginia

We visited last summer. I think we spent a few hours there. We had a guided tour that was very informative and then went through the mosaics again on our own. The walkways allow you to see all parts of the mosaics. It's easy to reach if you have a car, just off the motorway.

Fishbourne was the first Roman site that I visited in Europe 22 years ago and, as such, it made quite an impression. Last year, after visiting the newly opened Palazzo Valentini in Rome, I thought to myself, "that was nice, but I think I learned the most about Roman house construction in England."
