Fishbourne, Mary Rose

For those of you who have been to Fishbourne and to see the Mary Rose how long did you spend at each site? It is hard for me to tell from the website how big Fishbourne actually is making it hard for me to estimate how long we would spend there. Thanks!

I don’t remember exactly, but Fishbourne isn’t all that big. I think an hour would be about right. The Mary Rose is part of a much larger museum. I think we spent 5-6 hours there, including a harbor cruise which was quite interesting. But it’s probably been 5 or more years since I’ve been there, so assume my estimates are wobbly.

I spent the better part of a day at the Mary Rose Museum. I have an interest in the history and the archaeology both personal and professional. So it was a must do for me.

Trip Advisor estimates about 2 hours for Fishbourne Palace.

The Mary Rose website says allow 1.5 - 2hours.

When are you visiting? 2 hours for Fishbourne is about average but it depends on the time of year and whether you'll be enjoynig the gardens.

The Mary Rose took considerably more than 2 hours for me but it all depends on how much interest you have in it, it's a very well produced display and museum.

I was emailing back and forth with someone about Arundel Castle and it came up in conversation that she used to work at Fishbourne. She says the typical person spends an hour there.

I spent an entire day at Portsmouth Historic Harbor. There is so much more to see there than the Mary Rose.

Thank-you all! We usually spend more than others at sites as we are big history buffs. We will be visiting in June so will probably take a turn around the gardens at Fishbourne, but really the mosaics are our focus. I realize there is a lot more to see in Portsmouth, I visited Nelson's ship 21 years ago, but we'll only have time for the Mary Rose this trip. We'll do Fishbourne 1st as it should be shorter and then spend the rest of our time at the Mary Rose.

I have been to both, the Mary Rose is bigger and has many different aspects to it. We took the bus there and back from Chichester, we also saw the Victory and the other one, both were interesting but not fascinating.
The next morning we went to Fishbourne which is marvellous and afterwards went to Bosham to wander around for the afternoon.
The Mary Rose deserves/needs more time.
