We have been all over Europe but, strangely, never to London. We are looking at hotels and are a bit surprised at the cost. We’d like to be near the action and have a room larger than a sardine can without spending a fortune. We are planning to stay for 12 nights and do several day trips as well. Please give suggestions! Thanks.
Premier Inn is a large chain with numerous hotels throughout London. The rooms are basic but comfortable, clean and quiet. Larger than a sardine can.
We also have rented apartments. homes through London Perfect, excellent experiences always.
Bloomsbury (near the British Museum) has many hotels, and its about a 10 minute walk from Covent Garden. My personal favourite is the Celtic Hotel, right near Russell Square Tube (http://www.stmargaretshotel.co.uk/W_e_l_c_o_m_e.html)
I too have been all over Europe and keep returning to London.
When you say “ action “ are you talking about noisy touristy spots?
The Underground the tube will transport to all the various London neighborhoods.
Try The Premier Inn chain. Comfortable not sardine size rooms: Kings Cross, Waterloo, Euston, County Hall, Aldgate or Blackfriars. DO NOT GO WITH THEIR HUB brand as they have small rooms. Stick with those sites above. Larger rooms.
Easy day trips:
Bletchley Park
Rye
Oxford
Hampton Court
Windsor
Lewes Castle
We too like the area a little walk from Covent Garden closer to the British Museum. We have stayed in various small hotels on Gower St, the St. Margaret hotel, now Celtic Hotel mentioned above and last summer at the Bedford Hotel. We liked it’s location and especially the large garden in the back where we could sit and enjoy a drink or meal. The room it’s self was a bit smaller then we’re used to and there was no AC except in the public places but the garden was very nice. They did have fans in all of the rooms. You don’t mention when you are going to London but if it is the summer months you might look for lodging with AC. We have stayed in other areas of London in past years but we gravitate to this area, Bloomsbury, near the British Museum for walkability and transportation.
Thank you. This has been helpful.
