Hi,
Does anyone aware on any constraints of using rental car in England on a the ferries to Ireland?
Should one prefer a smaller car due to cost ? Fitting on the ferries? Insurance?
Best,
Rami
Read the conditions of hire and your contract very carefully. Many car hire companies prohibit their cars travelling on ferries. Ask.
This question comes up regularly on another travel forum and the general advice is to leave the hire car in England/Scotland, fly to Ireland (or do the ferry if you really want to) and hire a car there, I seem to remember that Hertz allowed you to take a car to Ireland (i think) but charged you extra for the privilege
Some won't allow you to do this at all.
Some require an extra fee to cover insurance or recovery services.
Some might differentiate between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Some might not charge anything extra.
So you need to check the terms very carefully.
If this isn't a round trip to return the car eventually somewhere in Great Britain then expect really hefty one way fees, if even allowed.
