Fastest Train from Bath to London

Hi, I have seen several posts but just want to be sure that I am reading correctly that the GWR that takes you from Bath to London Paddington station is the fastest train. We are not concerned about paying extra for a faster train but can you please advise that the best site is to book through the National Rail site or should I book directly on the GWR site. Again, I am ok with paying extra to book in advance but want to make sure I am choosing the best site (if I run into any issues) vs. a re-sale site.

Also, does anyone know if you can purchase this ticket as open ended? Or is it best just to pick your specific time.
Thank you!

This is the fastest route,

There are three price levels for non-Advance tickets, Anytime, Off-peak, & Super Off-peak. The latter two have time restrictions but can be used on any train for the time when they are valid.

Advance tickets tied to a particular service are also available.

National Rail actually doesn't sell tickets but directs you to the operating company. GWR is as good as any and may from time to time have special offers, but you can try any others if you have problems with it, such as LNER.

Paddington is the route to take - you can book via any rail company, or using the official Train Line option

Cheaper fares tend to be the Advance ones, rather than anytime tickets

the official Train Line option

The Trainline is by no definition “official” it’s just a reseller which will add a fee and make life more difficult if things go wrong.

You can use the GWR website, or any other TOC (Train Operating Company) website, they all sell each other’s tickets. Or use nationalrail.co.uk.

Normally on a journey of that sort of length there would be a mixture of faster and slower trains on the route and you would be able to choose - a slower one might be cheaper for instance. But in the case of Paddington to Bath, as least in the week, there is a train every 30 minutes during the day and they all take pretty much the same time, around 80 minutes.
