Falconry near York

I will be visiting York, UK with my daughter in mid September 2020. I want to give her a half day Falconry Experience as her Christmas gift. I've looked on the internet for locations and descriptions of the Falconry experiences and was wondering if they are all pretty much the same or if some stand out more than others. I've found 3 near York: York Falconry at Askham Bryan Wildlife Center (5 miles from York), York Bird of Prey Centre (11 miles north of York), Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre (30 miles north of York).

Thirsk's descriptions sounds the best, but it is also the furthest from where we are staying. We will be staying at the The Grand York, so we are not planning to rent a car, but it doesn't look like there are trains from York to Thirsk? Perhaps I'm missing something? Askham is the closest and most convenient, and they do have a bus from York train station to Askham, near the center but I wasn't as impressed with their description. Has anyone done this and can offer advice or suggestions?

Hi -

There are trains from York direct to Thirsk and the journey takes about a half hour, quicker on some trains. Looks like the majority will be Trans Pennine line, but a quick search suggests there are over forty trains a day between the two places. Thirsk isn’t huge, but it would be sensible to work out where the falconry centre is in Thirsk relative to the station. The place is big enough to to have a taxi service if required.

Hope this helps if you’ve set your heart on Thirsk!

Have a great trip.
