Hello!
Does anyone have recommendations for a falconry/large birds of prey place to go to in/near London? Thank you in advance!
Not right off hand BUT I have seen a falconer working his Harris Hawk IN King's Cross Station to chase the pigeons away. My brother and I are birders and recognized the "jingle" of the hawk bells attached to it's legs before we located it visually.
Also saw another falconer with a Harris Hawk working the Cloisters at Canterbury Cathedral.
I just searched “falconry London’ and found several entries, including at Fulham Palace in south-west London, which might be the most convenient
Do you want to fly falcons, or are you interested in the rescue aspect of birds/raptors and want to visit a facility and see the birds. Rather different agendas. Can you narrow it down?
Working falcons aren’t that uncommon in London. We used to have one visit the offices where I used to work once a year. They were used to scare off the magpies that nested on the buildings. I’m not sure how successful they were. One year I had 5 magpies on the window ledge by my desk all taking there first flight. Very disconcerting having 5 pairs of eyes watching your every move!
