Extending a trip to UK

We are taking the Rick Steve’s 13 day tour of Scotland in April 2025 and thinking about extending it for 2-7 days on either side. We will probably fly through London as no direct flights to Scotland at that time of year, and directly home from Edinburgh. We spent a week in London a few years ago and have been to the Cotswolds and Bristol previously.

Definitely go a couple of days ahead to allow for any travel hiccups.

London is always good but I also love Northumberland and Yorkshire!

A possible flight alternative - When I was flying to Scotland to go to Orkney and Shetland last summer I wound up flying via Amsterdam. It worked well from my end-of-the-line airport in the Inland Northwest to my Seattle hub, on to Amsterdam and then an easy flight to Aberdeen. I knew I was going to have a bunch of segments but wanted to avoid going thru London if possible. Amsterdam was very easy as going to UK you don't even have to go thru passport control until you get to your UK destination, and then Aberdeen passport control was quick and easy. I'd assume Edinburgh will be less busy than London. Amsterdam transit was a piece of cake.
