I'll be meeting a friend at the National Portrait Gallery on the evening I arrive in London in late October. It will be getting dark, I'll be tired, and I know I sometimes get confused with underground station exits... Can someone please tell me which exit I use from the Leicester Square station? Not sure if it is 1 or 2? THANKS!
Exit onto the west side of Charing Cross Road and walk past the Hippodrome south, across Cranbourn Street and the gallery is a couple of minutes away.
London has grown much more helpful to strangers by posting local maps in and around Underground stations and even on some street corners.
Based on this plan of the station and the advice above, it looks like you need to use Exit 2.
Thanks for the helpful replies everyone!
Also, all the exits are on different corners of the same crossroads, so even if you leave by the wrong one it should be pretty clear where you are.
