Everett's London/Dublin trip

I'm looking for help on inexpensive airfare and accommodations for 5 days in London and 5 in Dublin with a relaxed itinerary to experience these two wonderful cities cultures, foods, and sites. We will have 5 days in each. We will be in London Aug.29-Sept.2 and Dublin Sept.19-24. In between we booked an all inclusive tour from England to Scotland to Ireland for 17 days(Sept.2-19) by coach through my Ireland. My wife and I are in our mid 60s retired teachers. We'll be flying from Connecticut to London to start the trip, returning to Ct. from Dublin on the 24th.

This August and September? Yikes!

Look at the Premier Inn website for accommodations.

Your tour hotel in London, the Riu Plaza, is not extravagantly priced at £900 for the 4 nights.
Premier Inn is having a sale at the moment, and their Victoria Hotel (so close to the Riu plaza) is £508 for the same 4 nights
Likewise in Dublin the City Centre PI is in the sale for 672.80 Euro which isn't too expensive for Dublin.
The sale ends on 7 July.
An Open Jaw from Hartford (via Dublin outbound) on Aer Lingus is $905 which for the time of year and fairly short notice is not that bad.

Depending on where you live in Connecticut, you'll likely get better fares flying to/from BOS or one of the NYC airports (likely JFK). Skyscanner.com is my preferred tool for finding cheap flights. In addition to one open-jaw ticket, as suggested by Stuart, you can buy two one-way tickets.
Where to stay in London and Dublin are frequent topics on the Forum, so I recommend searching the site for recommendations. Based on the My Ireland website, you'll be at the Gresham on O'Connell Street, which is booked for the following nights. Given that information and what you'll be seeing with your group, I would recommend one of the hotels near St. Stephen's Green like Buswells (I haven't stayed there, but it's one that the RS tours uses and lots of recs here on the Forum) or Merrion Square, as it will put you closer to Trinity College and the museums south of the Liffey.
