I know that all the travellers coming to the United Kingdom will be closely watching the strike situations this year and next. So I'm afraid I have more bad news.
The ASLEF Union - the train drivers Union - has announced today that Drivers at 12 rail companies have overwhelming voted to continue strikes going forward
The strikes will affect:
- Avanti West Coast
- CrossCountry
- Great Western Railway (GWR)
- Greater Anglia
- GTR Great Northern Thameslink
- London North Eastern Railway (LNER)
- Southeastern
- Southern/Gatwick Express
- South Western Railway (depot drivers only)
- SWR Island Line (Isle of Wight)
- West Midlands Trains / London Northwestern Railway
The vote was conclusive. 85% of all eligible workers voted and 93% voted “Yes”. That's even higher than the very high results last time.
The mandate is for another 6 months so strikes can be any time during that time, as long as they have given 14 days notice.
There have been settlements now with 11 train companies which means that ASLEF will NOT strike:
These will not be striking from the point of view of Drivers (including some non-passenger companies):
- DB Cargo
- Eurostar
- Freightliner Heavy Haul
- Freightliner Intermodal
- GB Railfreight
- Grand Central
- Merseyrail
- MTR Elizabeth line
- Nexus
- PRE Metro Operations
- ScotRail
A settlement offer from Arriva Rail London (London Overground) has been recommended by the Union and is currently under a Ballot.
Watch this space - unfortunately this isn't over yet; and this is just one union - RMT and TSSA are still striking on more and different days.
