Eurostar reliability

Just wondering how reliable the Eurostar from London to Paris is. Is it generally on time? Are there ever strikes on this line?

Thanks for any information!

Very.

Usually, but sometimes things happen.

Sometimes but not often.

It is usually reliable BUT I've had two occasions where I was significantly delayed. On one occasion a train ahead of mine derailed; because of this, the train I was on departed late, could not travel at full speed, and there was single tracking around the area of the derailment. On the other occasion, the train was stopped in the channel tunnel for a couple hours due to a power outage on the French side. Both of these occurred during avperiod of time when I was traveling almost weekly on Eurostar.

usually reliable, but as Laura said, it can from time to time have a doozy of a delay. Sometimes lesser delays.

It's reliable. But occasionally things happen.

I've used it a bunch of times and it's been bang on time, smooth, beautifully-organised.

Then one day when I was due to travel from London to Brussels, someone killed themselves by jumping in front of an earlier train.

It caused delays for about five hours, mass queues at St Pancras, many people delaying journeys to the following day... utter misery for many. Luckily I managed to find a plane ticket for a price I was prepared to pay...

But what can you do? It was a rare event. And Eurostar were great about refunding people who chose not to travel, the queues - while long - looked well-organised and they got people on trains as soon as they could.

Eurostar is generally good, but things can happen as with any rail line. When it's good it's very good and when it's bad, it's often hideous.

The other option is to fly. Possible issues here - French air traffic control strikes (frequent in the summer), fog at the airport if travelling spring or Autumn), baggage handlers strike in France (not unheard of), technical problems with the plane, problems with transport getting to /from the airport which will be miles out of each city etc. Door to door flying takes longer than Eurostar.

Once I was going from London to Brussels (much of the same tracks) and there was a collision of some kind involving a truck or a car on the tracks in France. Service was suspended for at least eight hours. The terminal was a madhouse. Stuff happens. I was really lucky, they "held" the last train to Antwerp (and beyond) from Midi, so I eventually got back to the hotel after midnight.
