Eurostar London to Paris - Questions!

Hello! We have tickets on the Eurostar from London to Paris, leaving at 5:30pm. My understanding is we need to arrive at the station about 90 minutes beforehand. Are there places to eat at St Pancras, after security, or should we get food before we go through security? I heard there is a Pret a Manger in the terminal? Thanks!

Lots of places at Kings Cross/St. Pancras. I don't remember seeing much after entering the secured area, but I may just not remember. What I do remember is crowds. Some seating available, but lots of folks milling around waiting. My memory is getting short, trip wasn't so very long ago!

As far as the 90 minutes - yes, believe it. No need to arrive too early. You will likely be held outside the security lines until the checks are completed for the earlier trains.

There are places to eat after security, but I would eat get food before. You can take it through. I generally go to the Marks & Spencer‘s food place that’s right there and get a sandwich and a drink and chips and whatever you want there’s no restrictions so bring as much as you want. That includes a bottle of wine, beer, etc. as far as I can tell.

The actual seating area can be crowded. The lines can be long and there’s not as good as selection once you get through security.

In that 90 minutes you are actually going through passport control for both exiting England and entering France so have your passport ready. The station is part of a large shopping mall with lots of options. Either eat before or take a sack lunch with you. Once through immigration and security I don't remember much being there except the seating area. Maybe I just didn't notice it. The train situation is not as easy as other trains. Tighter on security for obvious reasons.

I had a nice sit down and drink at nice pub before boarding a train to Edinburgh. It is inside the King's Cross Station up a little set of stairs at the North end. I think it was The Parcel Yard pub.

I would get something to eat before going through security. There is a Pret as well as multiple other options, so you should have a variety of choices.

You might want to review their website, as it lists all the eat-in restaurants, cafes, grab-and-go, and drink places at the station. https://stpancras.com/eat-drink

in the highly unlikely event that the choices at St Pancras International are insufficient, just a few yards across the side street is Kings Cross station (also by a waterproof tunnel) which has even more choices including a Waitrose supermarket (a little one) and yet more restaurants including on the upstairs terrace.

I might get there a bit earlier if you're going after the EU EES comes into effect.

It was very therapeutic after my trip to Paris to go to the St Pancras Wetherspoon (I don't mean that to be sanctimonious!), if I remember correctly it's about a minutes walk to the security area.
There's a Greggs right across from that too. So your options for a quick bite aren't scant should you be in a rush.

There is a Pret a Manger after you go through the Eurostar security. We were there in August, 2023 and bought takeout food there to take on the train. That worked out well. Definitely be at the station 90 minutes beforehand. It took that whole time for us to get through.

This is a popular vlog subject (e.g., Man in Seat 61) so pull some up and they'll show and tell what this is.

depending on your class of service there might also be a lounge available to you.

Pret a Manger both post-security and pre-security. There are loads of other places pre-security - Boots or Marks & Spencer for takeaway sandwiches, other places if you have time to have a meal.
