ETA ? Visa/documents needed

We plan on coming to the UK for 3 weeks in April 2024. What documents will be required then for travel? I’m very confused with ETA, ETIAS or Standard visitor visa. Many thanks.

IF you hold a US passport like many on this forum do, then you do not need any documents at all. You do not need a visa. You do not need to do anything special. You will go thru Immigration in UK and you will be allowed to stay for up to 6 months.

IF the time comes when there is some kind of paperwork for you to do to enter a country, your airline will notify you when you purchase a ticket or at some time later if something is put in to place.

Of course we welcome you to the forum and hope you'll stick around and find out any changes here!

well to add some nuance...

If your purpose is simply visiting, you need a passport that is valid for the duration of your stay and you might be permitted to stay for up to 6 months.

There is one document you need......your passport.

There will be an ETA type visa waiver you will have to apply and pay for which will be introduced in the next couple of years. It is in the process of being introduced and is already in place for some Middle Eastern countries. I will be very surprised if anything changes for US citizens before next April though.

Thank you so much for the replies. I realized last night I forgot to say what country I’m coming from. Yes, it is the U.S.
