English Premier League tickets for matches in August?

I read that the 2016-17 English Premier League season starts on August 13. Is it possible to get tickets to matches in August? How would I go about buying tickets? Looking at matches in London area.

Since the current season hasn't finished the teams in each league / division haven't been determined yet, let alone a schedule. Typically they are released mid to late June.

Having said that, getting a ticket for a London home match won't be easy because of the demand.

It's difficult to get match tickets unless you are a club member. Also, matches are liable to change at short notice to fit in with the tv schedules, so may get moved from Saturday to Monday evening.

If you want to see any London football, I suggest that you go to a Championship fixture rather than Premiership, as these tickets will be easier to get and are less likely to get moved.

Buy tickets direct from the club, never a ticket agency.

In some cases availability is improved by unfashionable opposition, but the clubs in London rarely have a problem in selling their tickets.

As others have said, the fixture list comes out around June time. Your best chance of getting PL tickets is by buying a corporate package, which isn't cheap. For regular tickets your odds are slim, unless you register as a member of a club now and hope they're scheduled to play someone unattractive during your time here. Your best PL bets in London would be Arsenal and West Ham as they will have the hgihest capacity stadiums, but to be blunt I'd say your chances with either would be slim.

As others have said, Championship and lower are easy to get tickets to. Non-PL London teams include Brentford, Fulham, QPR (all 2nd tier); Charlton, Millwall (3rd tier); Leyton Orient, Barnet, Wimbledon (4th tier), and Dagenham & Redbridge, Bromley, Sutton (5th tier). The lower end of things don't even require advance tickets.

If PL is a must for you, though, then you'll have to go outside of London. Southampton, West Brom, Stoke and Brighton (if they get promoted) are probably the easiest journeys for you, but the ability to get tickets depends entirely on opposition. Stoke v. Watford is attainable, but Stoke v. Man Utd would be next to impossible.

Best strategy to secure tickets is to become a member of one or more of the clubs you are interested in, and secure tickets via the club's official reseller. Details are available at the clubs official sites. There will typically be a markup depending on who the opponent is, but there is always availability, though there may be limits depending on what membership tier you can secure.
