England Cotwalds In Summer

We'll be traveling by car around the Cotswalds and and other popular country areas in August.....do I need hotel/B&B reservations ahead of time, or can we find places as we go?

During the summer months, I’d recommend having reservations ahead of time pretty much any place popular with tourists, and the Cotswolds are loaded with tourists.

It’s Summer. Peak travel time.

For instance, Bourbon on the Water will look like Disneyland with tourists and tourist busses.

So yes book your accommodations in advance.

Absolutely, yes, you need advance reservations at B&B's in the Cotswolds in August.

I have traveled during the summer, did not everything ahead. There are hundreds of B&Bs that do not advertise but of the cost. There are two options you can do 1) when it starts getting close to the time you want to stop for the night start looking for B&B signs, 2) you can go to a Tourist Information Center and ask them to book a room where you are or in another village if you know where you want to spend the night.

Apparently, according to the press, more Brits are going to be holidaying at home, due to the good weather we had last year and Brexit uncertainties; therefore book accommodation ASAP for August. You may be able to find places on the hoof, but the best places will have been taken, so you will be left with what no one else wants or the expensive places.

Check online before your trip to be sure tourist information centers actually exist in towns where you might want to stay. Because of budget cutbacks, many places in England (including Brighton as of 2017) no longer have staffed tourist offices. You will instead see references to "tourist information points", which are racks of brochures if you're lucky, or billboard-sized maps of the town if you're not.
