Elizabeth Line Farringdon Station Transfer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNX_M2gZ4K8

I will be heading from Heathrow to King’s Cross station on my next trip. When I checked google maps it had a route that used the Elizabeth line to Farringdon and then the Thameslink train to King’s Cross instead of the tube. I found the YouTube video linked above. Is the transfer as straightforward as the first part of the video shows? Basically up the long escalator to sort of a mezzanine level and walk over to the correct platform? Or is the correct platform on the other side? Any reason to use the tube lines instead?

Yes I am aware that the picadilly line can get me there without any changes. However I’m one of the few people that find the picadilly line cramped when traveling with bags.

Alternatively what’s the transfer like at Paddington station from Heathrow express to the tube? Years ago I made the transfer but to the circle line going the opposite direction. It involved corridors and turns and steps. So perhaps going the other direction is easier?

Thank you for your help.

I haven't seen the video but I can assure you that the newly remodelled Farringdon has all the connections easy and well signed

the transfer at Paddington is pretty much the same as you remembered.

The two lines are on different levels but connected by both escalators and lifts and well signposted. It’s a simple change and probably the easiest way to King’s Cross. You can of course take the Piccadilly line direct with no changes from Heathrow - that’s cheaper but not as spacious a ride.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I will plan on Lizzie to Farringdon. Follow up question. If I tap in at Heathrow do I need to do anything at Farringdon? Or can I just tap out at Kings Cross?

Just tap out at the end of the journey. There are no barriers to go through changing at Faringdon. You may see some standalone validators but you can ignore them - they are so people travelling on National.Rail tickets on Thameslink can tap in or out for TfL contactless payment.
