My wife and I are visiting Edinburgh in June. We are flying direct to Edinburgh International from the states. We will not be renting a car and will have two suitcases. What are your recommendations for getting from the airport to our hotel located in the New Town area? I am looking to make that transition stress free if possible the morning of our arrival.
We normally take a taxi to our hotel after an international flight and will be doing that after we fly into Glasgow next month.
The airport tram is very convenient and easy to use: https://edinburghtrams.com/stop/edinburgh-airport-airport-fare-zone
We used Uber last August. There was a very long line to get on the bus. You can also take a taxi. Stress free means not using public transportation to us.
Of course Edinburgh is in Scotland not England.......
Depending where your hotel is exactly in the New Town, the tram might be the best option. Plenty of space and a quick, level walk from the terminal building.
There are plenty of options. For a better answer, tell us where you are staying. New Town is a big area.
If your hotel is near a Tram stop, then that might be the "best" option.
If your hotel is near an airport bus top--the Airlink 100-- then the bus might be the best option.
But for true stress free travel I'd suggest either a taxi or Uber. It's not very far from the airport into town.
Am I correct that the train station/St Andrew's square in New town is a tram stop?
Take the tram. If you're leaving from EDI, as well, an open return ticket is less than $13US. The trams are very nice: clean, comfortable, loads of room for your bags.
Yes, there is a tram stop at St. Andrew's square, about 1.5 blocks from Waverly station, Jules M.
