We will be spending one full afternoon in Edinburgh, end of July. How to make the best of it? We are arriving by train from London and staying in the Royal Mile. Suggestions for what to see , where to eat and a pub would be much appreciated. Thank you
You might want to post on the Scotland forum!
But in brief, you’re not going to have a lot of time so from Waverley station I would head up to the castle, look at the outside, then stroll down the Royal Mile looking at things as you pass.
If you wanted to see more of Edinburgh than just the Royal Mile, you could consider the hop on hop off bus:
While I can't give a specific recommendation for the area around the Royal Mile, why not look to eat at a local pub? Your hotel can give you a recommendation.
Depending on what time you get there I'd check out the Royal Mile tour by Mercat Tours. It gave us a full appreciation of the history of what we were seeing along the Mile. https://www.mercattours.com/view-tour/secrets-of-edinburghs-royal-mile
Thank you, will check the Edinburgh posts. Thank you for the hop on hop off bus idea!
There is actually a fairly good cafeteria at Edinburgh castle with an excellent view of the surrounding area. As part of a group tour we are at the Whisky Experience and the food was excellent.
Thank you! Will look into booking a tour of the castle.
For some great food check out Maison Bleue at 36 Victoria St. It is just off George IV Bridge St. which is just off High St. (The Royal Mile) close to the castle. Go to googlemaps.com, type in the address, and you'll be able to locate it easily. You can use the street view to "walk" to it before leaving home. You can't miss the blue façade. We've never had a problem being seated at lunch, but dinner reservations are advised. Small place, same ownership for years, and excellent food.
