What's the most efficient way to get to Cambridge from Edinburgh? a Tuesday in mid-July.

Train from Edinburgh to Peterborough - where you change for another train that will take you to Cambridge. (It might work out cheaper to split the ticket at Peterborough). Also note that York is on this route and is well worth a stop over. For the long legs from Edinburgh to Peterborough, it will be cheaper to pre-book a specific train - and that also applies of you take a break of journey at York.https://www.visityork.org

Alternatively, you could fly with either Easyjet or Ryan Air from Edinburgh to London Stansted. It then just a 35 minute rail journey costing £11.10 (pay on the day) from Stansted Airport to Cambridge.
