Eccleston Square hotel(Victoria Station) vs Apex city of London hotel(city of London)

Hello,
My husband & I had booked refundable 5 nights at the Eccleston Sq hotel for our first time trip to London mid to end of August but now I found a better deal at Apex City of London(No 1 seething lane) hotel which is in a totally different neighborhood. The Apex includes breakfast for the same type of room & much cheaper. Any idea which neighborhood & hotel is better? I know that London guide book recommends the Eccleston but does anyone know anything about the Apex Hotel? We want to be close to the tube so that we can get around to the basic sights & are in our early 60’s so would like an area that’s relatively quiet, safe, considered a nice neighborhood with restaurants, maybe some shops & hotel that’s in very good shape. So many hotel choices in big cities!

Thanks for any advice!

Cheers,
Karen

Use Google Maps to peruse the areas.

Eccelston hotel: Looks like a short stroll to Victoria station where you can catch the tube. Not many restaurants or cafes nearby.

Personally I’d go with the Apex. Close to the Tower of London. 10 minute stroll to Leadenhall Market. Tower Hill underground close.

Victoria is an adequate but dull area of town. The Apex is in a much better location for tourists.

The Ecclestone is between Pimlico and Victoria - the streets are generally quiet at night as it's mainly residential/hotels/education buildings in the general area. There are shops and bars etc. but you have to walk to get a selection - up near Victoria you will find more

The Apex is between Tower and part of the city - again, can be quiet in much of it in the evening. Probably edges it in terms of restaurants.

In terms of area, I don't see loads in it, aside from working out where you want to go each day. But both offer an easy walk to the District line

Had an airbnb in Eccleston a few years ago. Pleasant area convenient to transportation, restaurants within a block or so but nothing memorable. A Theatre or two close by (saw Wicked there). All in all a good place to be but nothing particularly exceptional.

Thanks for the responses! Not really thrilled with either area or hotel I picked. Someone said the Bloomsbury area is really ‘in’ but prices are high especially when looking for a King bed. Any suggestions? Or other ideas about different areas, hotels to try for a trip in August?
