Eating in the Cotswolds

Not sure if it's Covid related but it was difficult to dine in Stow on the Wold October '22. Lots of places closed. No breakfast until 10 AM. Every supper pub or restaurant required a reservation. We settled on Fish and Chips and ate it in the square. Cold breakfast in the car or 18 pounds at the Stow Lodge. We're on notice for our next stop.

We didn’t have trouble getting something to eat in Stow on the Wold in May 2022.

No breakfast until 10 AM

that's often early in England. Most places don't start until 11 with what they call breakfast.

I'm pretty sure that Huffkins (the home of the magnificent Beesting) is open at 9:30 except Sundays and Saturdays. 10 on Sundays, 9 on Saturdays.

We found a lot of good food in the Cotswolds.
We stayed at Chipping Campden (Volunteer Inn-they had a nice breakfast).

Good recommendation on having a dinner reservation. I assume that means things are busy and businesses are doing well.

I guess you have a car. :) I bet the Cotswolds are beautiful now.

Move heaven and earth to eat at The Howard Arms in Ilmington--best meal of our summer Cotswolds experience by a streeeeeet.
Cotswold House in Campden makes a good splurge, while the Badger there is another smart choice, especially for afternoon tea. Eight Bells in Campden was so good that we returned three times.
A number of locals told us that *Paxford village's inn is the go-to local fave in the area, but it suffered a fire back in May, I think it was, and needs a new roof.

I am done. the food

Next stop, choose a hotel or B&B that includes breakfast without an additional fee.
Our hotel in Stow on the Wold included a breakfast buffet in the price, and it began in the dining room about 7 AM.
As I am researching restaurants and pub dinners for our next England trip, I find that the majority of places require reservations.

I’d assume that anywhere decent will require an advance reservation. Cafes will cater largely to tourists, who by and large are day trippers, so there isn’t much point opening super early.

All rural businesses are struggling hugely to get enough staff so that’s also a reason why you will find restricted opening hours and few tables for walk ins. They don’t have the kitchen or waiting staff to cater for more people.
