Easiest way to get to Stonehenge and Bath???

I'm going to London in a few weeks and I would love to do a day trip to Stonehenge in the morning, and Bath in the afternoon, and come back to London in the evening. I first thought of doing independent travel, but the routes looks so complicating! I then looked up some tours, but they're either really short and not worth the money, or just expensive. Does anyone know an easy way to get to these places? Do I need to sacrifice one place? Please help! Thanks!

It's quite a long round trip, and Stonehenge is quite isolated and hard to get to by non-tour public transportation. Either take a tour (be clear on what you're getting and you might still spend a lot of time sitting on coaches), hire a car, or make different plans.

Do the Mad Max tour of Stonehenge that Rick mentions in his book. It is an all day tour (8-5) that leaves from Bath but well worth the money. You get to see Stonehenge before the crowds arrive as well as the Avebury stone circles, the English countryside with white horses on the hills, and several other Cotswolds villages. My 11 year old son and I loved the tour. Someone else was driving so we were able to see the scenery. We also learned about the history of the region. This is such a historic area that if you went on your own, I doubt that you would be able to truly comprehend everything that you are seeing.

Hi. I have done a tour of Stonehenge and Salisbury with London Walks. It was most of the day and undertaken primarily via train and then some coach to Stonehenge from Salisbury. I really enjoy London Walks and try to fit some in each trip. They also have a full-day Bath trip. Bath can fill an entire day.

Here is the link to the London Walks day trips:

Stonehenge and Bath the same day makes both a bit rushed if you are planning this from London and no way should you also cover the Cotswolds the same day unless you want to spend most of the day in a coach.

An alternative is to take a tour that goes to Stonehenge in the morning then Bath in the afternoon and make your own way back to London by train in the evening. Much nicer to have dinner in Bath rather than dashing about. It will cost a bit mire, but is worth it.

You can do Stonehenge independently by taking the train to Salisbury then joining a bus tour or getting a taxi. It is c 90 miles away so you will not be there that early.

Bath is easy as a day trip by train.

My husband and i used GrayLine day tour about 6 times in/out of London. It is subcontracted out to Evan Evans. I would recommend Evan Evans. You can go to the Evans Evans site and see the choice of tours.
